Fertility Preservation as an Option for Women with Genetic Disorders: Insights from a SWOT Analysis on Elective Oocyte Freezing and Preimplantation Genetic Testing

چکیده
This paper uses a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis to overview the option of fertility preservation in women with genetic diseases, who would later use preimplantation testing for monogenic disorders, order not transmit their condition. Strengths associated elective oocyte freezing are ethical considerations, overall maternal fetal safety, effectiveness, if performed at <35 years age. Weaknesses related costs rare but present (<1–3%) risks complications. Counselling on management aimed preventing infertility offers valuable opportunity, same as it has been oncological patients’ care. The potentially high percentage conditions return frozen oocytes also represents an opportunity together minimization need egg donation, which higher obstetrical compared autologous oocytes. Finally, threat is represented by potential psychological distress young could never attempt become pregnant through testing, or do before any decline fertility. Potential unknown future long-term health children conceived after vitrification/thawing threat, current knowledge reassuring. Altogether, early counselling should thus be incorporated into standard care all patients

Elective oocyte freezing for the preservation of fertility
Oocyte cryopreservation has recently emerged as an option for women to preserve their fertility for medical (e.g. treatable malignancy) or elective indications (e.g. advancing age). This report describes an IRBapproved study of over 200 oocyte cryopreservation cycles at one center. Patients presenting for oocyte cryopreservation (January 2005 to 2010) were analyzed for day 3 follicle stimulatin...

Many women of childbearing age are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. Improved survival rates can give many time to still have their own families if they choose. Although cancer treatments can dramatically increase survivorship, they also can negatively affect future fertility. Women newly diagnosed with cancer may not be aware of the possible damage to their future fertility...

In March 2012, an article in The Straits Times entitled 'Freezing eggs could reverse falling birth rate' suggested that employing the latest oocyte cryopreservation techniques could both foster individual women's reproductive autonomy and impact Singapore's fertility rate, which in recent years has consistently been among the world's lowest. The article cited both local and international fertil...

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) involves analysis of biopsied cells as part of an assisted reproductive procedure. It is generally considered to be divided into 2 categories. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is used to detect a specific inherited disorder and aims to prevent the birth of affected children in couples at high risk of transmitting a disorder. Preimplantation genetic s...
